(ver 1.0 - WWW) Copyright (c)1999 King Mfg. & Rp2
Follow the instructions in each section to complete the heat loss calculation.

You will need to go through your home or the building that you want to do a heat loss calculation upon and tally aspects of each room and their heat loss characteristics. Tallying and adding all the aspects of your building's heat loss will allow this web site to determine the amount of heating that you will need in order to maintain your comfort zone (design temperature). First, give this calculation some identifying labels (at left)

Now enter the total heated floor area of this project. The total heated area of this project is the square footage (length * width) of all the heated spaces in your building.

Heated floor area in square feet:

Now let's collect data about the glass features in your building for the heat loss calculation. Measure all the glass features on the exterior walls of the building. Enter the height and width values for each window into the boxes at the right. The total glass square footage will be calculated for you. Select the proper fixture type from the pull-down menu.

Insulation value in ceiling:

Calculate the total lineal footage of all the exterior walls of your building. Note: Do not deduct for windows and doors. The heat loss calculator will do this for you. Measure the length of your walls. Enter the length value of all exterior walls in the text box and then select (or enter) the wall insulation type/value.

any unheated spaces.

Do you have a basement with a floor? Calculate the total square footage of all the basement flooring in your building. Enter the square footage value of the floors in the text box and then select (or enter) the floor insulation type/value.

Is your building built on a slab on grade?  If so, calculate the total lineal footage of the slab on grade perimeter insulation of your building. Enter the value (in feet) of the perimeter insulation in the text box and then select (or enter) the insulation type/value.

Lineal footage of slab on grade if any.
